And don't be disheartened if they don't respond right away! They usually have something like 100,000 unread emails in their inbox, with about a hundred coming in every day. Chances will be better if you take relevant courses, especially one of theirs. I started by going to a poster session and talking with one of the grad students, but given the global pandemic, I'm sure they won't mind if you shoot them an email out of the blue. You may wish to use MATLAB to implement supervised and unsupervised machine learning models, or for more advanced concepts in robotics and probabilistic graphical models. My uni, at least, allowed something like 4 credits of research to count towards my undergraduate degree. We recommend these courses for people with a strong foundation in introductory MATLAB that wish to expand their skills for data science and machine learning problems. If neither is the case, it's a good time to see if any professors are looking around for undergraduate research assistants. Your instructors and TAs are there to help (just don't contact them at 11 PM before deadlines, I beg of you). ![]() ![]() Most of what I learned about MATLAB is from googling and from asking other students I worked or studied with. I'm assuming you already talked with your academic advisor? If you haven't, do that first, but if you have, go talk to your research advisor (if it's for undergraduate research) or an instructor (if it's for a course). MATLAB will be very useful in biomedical science! University policies vary on how many credits can be from another school, or which schools count.
